Do all great things happen in NYC? Maly Blomberg moved to the Big Apple from Lima, Peru, in 2002 with only $400 in her pocket. She immediately set to work capturing wonderful renegade imagery. These two photos were created in a moment of spontaneity.
Maly, a stylist, makeup artist and one leggy model took a turn for the dark side: the cool basement of her city brownstone. While trying to move equipment through a narrow doorway to the basement below, Maly glanced down to survey the space. In that cramped environment she saw her model’s face just skimming a single ceiling bulb. “Don’t move,” she cried. “That’s perfect.” Abandoning the larger gear, she dashed down the steps with Canon 5D, a small umbrella and a Photoflex LiteDisc. Illumination was courtesy the single fluorescent light from the ceiling.
