As determined by a panel of celebrity judges, the photo best representing ‘Not Normal’ was created by Jonathan Coffey from St. Louis, Missouri for “A River Runs Through It.” Second place went to Bob Garas of Orlando, Florida for “Brain Washed,” and third place accolades to Kaleb Scott from San Diego, California for “Moon Baby.”

Coffey will receive a $50 gift certificate from Picaboo, a premier provider of photo books and photo cards, a one-year subscriptions to Rangefinder and AfterCapture magazines, plus the publisher’s latest Compendium of Winners album featuring outstanding images from the 2007 WPPI 16” x 20” print competition. Second and third prize winners will each receive a one-year subscription to both magazines.

Kaleb shares, “That was such a fun shoot. Our friend was selling her wedding dress so we decided to stage this shot in my grandmother’s house which was up for sale at the time.” Kaleb enlisted the help of two strong assistants to hold the bride’s waist under her gown and let her fly! Not your typical bridal shot!

Shot with a Nikon D40 and Nikon 55 - 200MM. The photographer adds, “I like the futuristic look of this mannequin, definitely not normal. It seems closer to an android than an element in a showcase window shop.”

Photo title: “and then she turned my way…and her smile…what the hell?”

Thendara offers that she wants “to warp your reality.” This photo was taken with a Fujica manual SLR in Sudbury, England. It was later manually (rather then digitally mind you) collaged in the glue sense of the word and then scanned back in.

Why not normal: The image is not normal — well you tell me. Nice body, shame about the face!

“I always have a camera ready for the moment when normalcy disappears!” says Lisa. “Growing up in St. Louis I saw The Arch many times, mostly from underneath or recently from the new ballpark, but the BEST view was the ‘eye from the sky.’ This image was taken from seat 27a with a point & shoot Olympus digital camera.”

Carol says that taking pictures is a great reason to get out and see the world around you, even if you are just going to the park. “You’d be surprised what you see when you really start to look.” Her leggy shot was taken with indoor light and a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20; everything was set to auto, including the timer.

Why not normal: “Most people just don’t wear mismatched shoes, not to mention the stockings.”

Neil shares that he’s been shooting with film for some time, but two years ago finally made the transition to digital. This is a layered composition using a Pentax K10D with a Tamron AF 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 XR. No Photoshop was used.

Why Not Normal: “Trying to create photographic images using non-traditional elements. Very much an experimental process but I like this image.”
